Entry for July 23, 2007

The NCC event at Summit went well.  The weather was great!  Mid 80's and low humidity.  I took the racer car in order to get some seat time before the club race at the end of the month.  David Small was there.  Guess I was right, he's hooked!

I had 2 students, both were great to work with.  Marie was a novice student in a 99 328 sedan.  She was a great listener and had a great learning attitude.  By the end of the weekend she had the line nearly perfect.  This is no easy feat, seeing as the track has 18 turns to remember!  My "C" student also had a great attitude and we worked with smoothness.  He had experience, so picking up the line came to him pretty quickly.  We mainly worked on vision and smoothness.  By the end of the weekend he improved dramatically.  He was all grins!

We ran the circuit without pit straight.  Saturday we ran the course with a series of turns after the pistol grip.  This slowed things down through there.  Sunday they took that out and we ran the small straight.  The M3 held it's own in the crowd of instructors.  I was schooled by Richard John!  But who can beat the master?   He taught me a few little tricks which made me faster.  Gerry was there in his E-30 M3.  I just put together his S-14 engine so I was glad to see it running well.  There was a coolant spill from a broken radiator in the first Instructor group on Saturday.  I was only able to get in 2 laps.  The second instructor session an instructor popped out of the carousel and ended up in the tire wall.  I got about 4 laps in on that session.  The instructor was OK but the car had damage all the way down the right side.  His race car was in the shop so he was driving his wifes car.  He came up as a favor to the club to fill in for an instructor who couldn't be there.  Very unfortunate situation.  Other than that there were no incidents.  Bill Shook did a fabulous job keeping things running smoothly.

Next weekend is the Summit Point club race!  Wish me luck!
