BMWNCC school March 17/18

Well, the first NCC school was interesting to say the least.  It snowed about 6 inches the day before, so all the roads were iced over @ 6 A.M. Saturday morning.  I decided to keep my cars at home and rode in with Gerry in his M3 on his snow tires.  The roads weren't bad until we got to Summit Point Rd.  Just over the railroad tracks was solid ice.  Gerry had to use all his skidpad skills to trek along this road!  Once we got there we found the track was iced up.  Of course, there was instructors and students who didn't show, so poor Bill Shook had a logistic nightmare on his hands.  But as usual he did an amazing job and pulled off a good and safe weekend.  The track didn't open until almost lunch.  The instructors were sent out for a long session to try to dry up the track before they sent any students out.  Gerry and I shared his car.  He was having some suspension issues so we were pretty slow.  I took my "D" students car out for a session to show him the line.  He had a nice Dinan 330ci.  It was pretty loose in the carousel so I took it easy.  As the day went on it dried up and the speeds increased.  My "B" student had a 2001 M5.  He was a quick learner and together we lowered his lap times substantially.  I got him to trail brake to help him rotate that heavy beast and by the end of the weekend he was one of the fastest guys in his group.  Nothing like a big 4 door chasing down an M3 in the carousel! :o)  The weather stayed pretty cool throught the weekend.  I think the highs were only in the mid 40's and it was windy. Despite the conditions, there were only a couple minor incidents.  Roy Morris lost some coolant due to a broken hose.  Luckily, is was during the instrucor session so no one went off, and he was able to fix the car at the track so he could drive it home.   Famous Daves came by Saturday night with some barbeque, so we filled up on some great food and a few beers.  All in all it was a great time.  It was good to get back on the track after the long winter.  Next event for me is the BMWCCA club race in April.  Wish me luck!
