The last NCC event of the year was at the Jefferson Circuit. I towed the racecar down for a last hurrah with these guys for 2007. Bill Shook did a wonderful job with yet another safe and incident free event. The only problem was when Colin’s brand new 335 snapped all the lug bolts in turn 2. There was no other damage to the car. It took a while for them to get the car off the track, so we had an early lunch. Other than that the weekend went on without a hitch.
I had two students. One was a novice named Robert that had never been on track before. He came in with his 2007 335. Beautiful car! He did remarkably well for a first timer. He was the fastest in his group in no time. He was able to pick up the line very fast so we worked on smoothness and vision. I love instructing students like him. It makes me look good! I’m sure he will be back. I’m pretty sure he’s got the bug. My other student named Joshua was in the intermediate group. He also was a quick learner and soon became the fastest student in his group! Yee haw! I was having a great time with these guys! It made my job so easy.
I took my novice student out a couple times in the instructor session. The first time out I kept the speeds down so not to scare him. The second time I took him out was a different story. I knew by this time that he didn’t scare so easily so we had a great time playing with some of the other instructors. We had the most fun with Adam Conrad and his Porsche. He had us with his horsepower but somehow we were able to stay on his tail. It was fun watching his left front tire leaving the ground in turn 4!
It was fortunate I brought the trailer because a buddy of mine Neil had a problem with his super charged M- Coupe. He had so much power he separated the alternator pulley from the alternator shaft. He was running with the Ferrari Club over at the Main track, which was freshly repaved last week. So I towed the rig over to the Main track after the event Saturday and towed him to my shop. We’ll get him fixed up pronto. We need to get it together by the 31st of October because there is going to be a special instructor event down at VIR to honor a great instructor, driver and person in Richard John. I’m honored to have been invited.
What a great season for the NCC group. Special thanks to all that pulled this together and made it work.
There is one last event for me this year and it will be with Mazda Drivers at the Shenandoah. Hope to see you there!
