The first weekend of 2007 was with Car Guys at Summit Point Main. I took the 2003 M3. First time for my new toy at the track. It performed flawlessly. Lot's of power and handled amazingly well with stock tires and brakes. Aryan ran a great event as usual. The weather was nice and that's always a plus. I had only one student. He had absolutely no experience and was using his Buddies 2005 Lotus Elise, who was running in the yellow or intermediate group. What a great friend! John, my student did very well. He started off making all the mistakes beginners make, but learned very quickly. By the end of the weekend he was zipping around the track nicely. Easily one of the fastest in his group. The last two runs we were playing cat and mouse with a E-36 M3. And the last run he passed a Porsche Carrera. He couldn't have been happier. His wife came up and was also interested in Motorsports, so I gave her a ride in the M3. I think there are two more people that are hooked. They were sure they were coming back soon.
I was able to paddock next to a couple buddies. Saturday Bob Kelly came up with his E-30 and Sunday Gerry Chan came up in his Miata. I got to play with those guys some. Unfortunately my friend Brian Hair had a mishap, where a deer hit the side of his car between turns 1 and 2. This happened Saturday afternoon, so he was done for the weekend. I gave him a ride home to Reston Saturday evening. Poor guy, not a good way to start the season. Other than that there was only one other small incident, a spec car that was being rented from Entropy Racing went off after turn ten and went up the embankment. Little damaged done to the car and the driver was fine. All in all it was a wonderful weekend. No I get to do it again this weekend with the NCC group. Until then.
